AC works fine; Frigidaire Customer service is abysmal and the warranty is worthless

The air conditioner arrived with a bent ground pin on the plug. It was obvious that the pin had been installed at an angle when it was manufactured since the plastic was deformed around it. when I tried to straighten the pin so it would fit in the outlet, it came off in my hand. Customer service is only available Mon-Fri from 8-5, so heaven forbid you have a problem on a weekend (it was Saturday when we tried to install it). There are 3 different 800 numbers all claiming to be "customer service" but two of them are just directories of regional service companies. We tried calling our local company directly and they said they could replace the plug but they'd need a dispatch from the central office to do it under warranty. Once we finally got through the labyrinthine phone menus to speak to an actual human at the central number, they told us the plug had obviously been damaged in transit, they weren't going to look at photos, and they didn't service plugs anyway. (There is no mention of the plug in the list of things the warranty does not cover.) they agreed "as a favor" to send us a new plug to install ourselves -- in 7-10 days. My house was 90 degrees on the first floor and people in my family have chronic health conditions. We ordered the plug elsewhere ourselves for $30 instead, it arrived the next day and fortunately we were able to figure out how to install it (there are no diagrams or instruction manuals available that I could find) and get the thing plugged in and working. The installation manual is also pretty bad. The illustrations look nothing like the actual parts, and a lot of the hardware looks really similar to multiple part illustrations. getting the cabinet installed in the window took hours of cursing and rereading the manual over and over. (by the by, they really do mean it about the 28" width -- we have a 27.5" window and wound up having to modify the side window fillers to be able to force the cabinet into the space. that's on us though, not on them.) Bottom line: If you get an air conditioner from Frigidaire that arrives in working order, you'll probably be fine. It works pretty well once you get it in the window. If it arrives with any defect or damage though, prepare for a bad time, and to pay for parts (and install them) yourself if you need them in less than 7-10 days.
